The game preparation for a Whately Pioneer Home match is large. First you need to confirm the umpire. The Beer Inning needs to be prepared, and beer and food purchased. The opponent has to be tracked down and confirmed. Your players have to be tracked down and confirmed. The Match Field has to be repaired and laid out; and when you are done with that you are rewarded with an evening of worrying about the weather. In other words, this event consumes your entire weekend, whether or not you get to play and compete.
Silver Bullet got his hearty Match Men to the Grounds, and the weather looked pretty good. It was dry-ish and the forecast was 50-50 that we'd make it to the Beer Inning with a match under our belt. We also had a good squad and Dog in the square. Artie was umpiring the Match and looked spiffy, as usual.
Dog breezed thru the first inning, while CJ turned a Elms muff into an Ace with some agressive base running. The Elms turned a Whately muff into an Ace of their own and after the Pioneers went quietly, the Match stood 1-1 after 2 frames.
